The Story of the House

A Historic Charlotte Home, Reimagined for Healing

Ancient Wisdom Meets the Historic Elizabeth District

Built around 1917, the house at 1824 East 7th Street has stood in the heart of Charlotte’s historic Elizabeth neighborhood for more than a century.

Originally built as a private residence, the home is a classic example of American Foursquare architecture, a style closely associated with the growth of Charlotte’s early streetcar neighborhoods. Its distinctive shingled exterior, hipped roof, central dormer and enclosed front porch remain part of the character that has made this house recognizable along East 7th Street for generations.

Today, the property is recognized as a contributing historic building within the Elizabeth Historic District, preserving a piece of Charlotte’s early 20th-century architectural history.

From Historic Home to Healing House

Like the Elizabeth neighborhood itself, the house has evolved over time.

By the late 1980s, the former residence had transitioned into professional space, beginning a new chapter while retaining much of the warmth and character of a home. More than a century after it was built, 1824 East 7th Street is once again becoming a place centered around people—this time as a home for healing, growth and well-being.

Today, the historic house brings together independent practitioners offering mental health therapy, holistic wellness and integrative healing services in Charlotte, NC.

Grace House Wellness took up residence at this beautiful location in August of 2026.

Rather than feeling like a traditional medical or clinical office, the house offers something different: original character, natural warmth and spaces designed to feel comfortable, grounded and personal.

There is something fitting about doing healing work inside a house that has lived so many lives of its own.

Rooted in Charlotte's Elizabeth Neighborhood

Elizabeth is one of Charlotte’s oldest streetcar suburbs, known for its tree-lined streets, historic homes and proximity to Uptown Charlotte. East 7th Street has been part of that story for generations, changing from a primarily residential corridor into the eclectic mix of homes, restaurants, small businesses and professional spaces found here today.

The house at 1824 East 7th Street remains part of that history.

Its next chapter honors what was already here while creating something new: a welcoming Charlotte wellness space where people can slow down, reconnect with themselves and receive care in an environment that feels more like a home than an office.

More than 100 years after its doors first opened, the house is still a place for people to come in, settle in and feel at home.
