Intensive FAQ

How is an intensive different from regular therapy?

Think of an intensive like a "psychic surgery."  If you have a chronic physical condition, oftentimes you can do things like physical therapy, massage, and go to the chiropractor and that can resolve the issue.  However, if your pain has been going on for months and the issue is primarily biological, the best option might be surgery no matter how many other options you try.  An intensive is like a surgery in that it is designed to acutely focus on what your psychological issues are that have likely been plaguing you for years.

It is not your fault if you have not made the progress you have been desiring.  Many people gain remarkable benefits from traditional therapy; however, sometimes the wounding is just too great that it requires some finely-tuned care and attention.

What if I'm already seeing a therapist?  Do I need to stop seeing them?

Nope!  We know that it can be a long, challenging process to find the best therapist that is right for you.  If you are happy with your current therapist, we want you to stay with them.  Provided the intensive only lasts for 1-4 days, you can return to your therapist as soon as you would like.  In fact, we encourage it!

How do I know which package is right for me?

During the prescreening, your therapist will recommend which package she feels best befits your situation and needs.  Please know that this is a joint decision that is co-created with you and your therapist.  You have the power to choose what you feel is best for you.

What happens during the prescreen?

Your therapist will get an inventory of what you are struggling with, how long you have been struggling, what you have tried to help yourself, and investigate why regular therapy and/or ways of coping have not working.

Why might I not pass the prescreen?

If you are actively suicidal or actively abusing substances, an intensive is not only contrindicated it could actually make things worse!  If this is the case, a higher level of care is needed and referrals will be provided.  Also, if the therapist feels that another level of care would be more beneficial that would best fit your needs you will be provided some referrals.  Other rules outs will be discussed with you during the prescreen.

What is my therapist doing to prep for my session?

An intensive is considered a formal clinical treatment process that requires much preparation to set you and your therapist up for success.

A portion of the fee for the intensive is dedicated to the time and resources needed to gather information and prepare exercises that are personally tailored to your needs.  This could include, but not limited to, reaching out to current or past therapist(s) to gather background info, contacting your doctor to gain a medical history, contacting any other individuals that you identify as being helpful to the process.

*Please note that written consent for all parties contacted must be obtained and a discussion between you and your therapist regarding these contacts will occur prior to your therapist contacting anyone.  You are in control of your treatment.

How do I secure my slot?

You and your therapist will work together to find a time slot that works best for your schedules.  Once you are ready to move forward, a non-refundable 50% deposit is required to reserve your slot for your intensive.

What if I am sick or there is an emergency during my intensive and I am not able to attend?
